Pat McAfee invokes Alabamaâs LANK closest thing to MLKâs âdream coming to fruitionâ
Pat McAfee took a moment Monday during his show in a passionate plea to remind people “all we need is love” all while citing Alabama’s LANK as the closest thing to Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream coming to fruition.
“A discussion, obviously, is Martin Luther King Jr. Day,” he said. “He had a dream. And I think LANK was one of the closest we’ve had to potentially that dream coming to fruition. So let’s realize that as we look around and that we’re maybe more close than we’ve ever been.”
The statement quickly turned political as he claims to have been canceled by each political party last week.
“And there’s an election about to take place (this) year where we need to remember that we are more close than we have ever been. And people could potentially try to drive us apart from the outside looking in. Now, as somebody who was canceled by both parties last week, both of them canceled me. … Two political parties canceled me last week and we are still alive. Let’s remember we don’t need all the outside noise. All we need is a little bit of love. Which is what we have for all the people who have good intentions every single day whenever they wake up, just like us.
“Now with that being said, football is awesome.”
For the uninitiated, LANK became the Crimson Tide’s motto this season en route to an SEC championship and College Football Playoff appearance. It stands for “Let A Naysayer Know.”
“I think it was something we built throughout the offseason,” Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe said earlier this season. “We came as one unit to try of think of something, a motto, that’ll push our team. There’s a lot of doubt that took place throughout the offseason and a lot of things took place. That was one thing.”
